                        Jeremy Burfoot: Author

Please allow me to inform you and entertain you. I'll use my 46 years of experience in aviation to explain how it really is and what really happens. I like to see the funny side of everything in what is quite a serious industry. My writing style is honest, humorous and not overly PC.

Feel free to check out my books below and my weekly blog on how to make your aviation experience more pleasant and efficient.

Bio:

Captain Jeremy Burfoot was born in Whangarei, New Zealand.

He was a New Zealand age group athletics champion in middle-distance running as a teenager.

He joined The RNZAF as a navigator at 18 and was the navigator on the search for the missing Air New Zealand DC10 in 1979.

In 1981 he left the Air Force and spent three years as a pilot in the mountains of Papua New Guinea before being employed by Qantas in 1984 as a second officer.

Jeremy became a 747 first officer in 1986, and in 1987 he became a simulator instructor.

He was promoted to 747 Captain with Qantas at age 31, then took a leave of absence from Qantas to work for Japan Airlines, based in Anchorage, Alaska and Honolulu.

In 1995, he returned to Qantas, where he remained until December 2020. At that time, he was an A380 Captain. He took redundancy from Qantas due to the Covid 19 outbreak.

In his aviation career, he amassed over 23,000 hours of flying and has visited over 100 countries.

Jeremy is a two-time cancer survivor and has raised over $500,000 for cancer charities.

He rode a jet ski around New Zealand in 2006 for skin cancer awareness and attempted to ride a jet ski from London to Sydney in 2010 for cancer as well.

He still holds the world record for the longest distance on a jet ski in 24 hours at 2287km.

He is a published best-selling author and has written 7 books. He is known for his humorous storytelling style.

Jeremy has represented New Zealand at multiple world masters cycling championships making the top ten a few times.

In recent times Jeremy has kept busy teaching his 88-year-old mother how to use a mobile phone. He hopes to finish this by 2028.

Jam-packed with hilarity, horror stories and honest insights, THE SECRET LIFE OF FLYING is part memoir and part guide to the skies - a razor-sharp and First Class read for anyone who has ever wondered who's really flying the plane... Out 25/06, pre-orders are available now at the link below.

Kiwis Can Fly

Non-fiction. Inspired by the first moon landing at the age of 10 in 1969, Jeremy Burfoot decided to become a pilot. He joined the RNZAF as a navigator at the age of 18 and was the navigator on the search for the Mt Erebus DC10 crash. He obtained his pilot's licence privately while still in the RNZAF and then went to Papua New Guinea to fly for Talair PTY for a couple of years.

He joined Qantas as a pilot in 1984 and was promoted to 747 Captain at the young age of 31. He took leave from Qantas in the 90s and flew 747s for Japan Airlines based in Anchorage, Alaska and Honolulu. He returned to Qantas and flew the 747-400, then the Airbus A380 before Covid 19 terminated his career in 2020. He has 23,000 hours of flying experience. He currently flies a paraglider to get back in the air when he feels the need.

This book has been written with the hope of inspiring young pilots to succeed in an aviation career. It includes tips for pilots and bonus chapters on the future of aviation, flying the big jets, what makes a good pilot and pilot health. In addition, it includes a bonus chapter on training by Captain Matt Gray, former head of Qantas training.

Shit Just Got Real

Hybrid Aviation Humour. Narrative non-fiction with a twist. Most of the stories are based on truth, but in places are exaggerated to add humour. Captain Terry 'Flash' Gordon is a creation of Jeremy Burfoot. He's a combination of many of the dubious characteristics Jeremy met throughout his career. Terry doesn't suffer fools gladly and is not very politically correct. All of the names have been changed to protect the guilty. Terry is quite a good travel guide as well as a good commentator on things aviation.

Buyer beware: Adult content
